"Hold on... YOU are internet dating?" Charlene looked at her friend, wide-eyed, between mouthfuls of salad. "Yep! I've been doing it for about a month now," Kelsey admitted, "and I absolutely LOVE it." Charlene was surprised at Kelsey's openness - not because she was a shy girl but because she'd been pretty much a couple with Jason since they'd met last year. "But... I thought you and Jason were pretty serious," Charlene continued. "We were," Kelsey said quietly, "but for the past few months, he's just been so vacant with me... so absent... and I found that I've been literally starving for company and attention. I guess I thought the internet dating experience would be a little fling but it has turned out to be so much more."

Charlene let her friend talk because it seemed clear that she really needed to vent. As it turned out, Jason wasn't the perfect guy that he projected himself to be. Kelsey, being an impossibly beautiful girl, looked awesome on his arm but Charlene was starting to believe it was all just an ego stroke for Jason. He was with Kelsey when he wanted to be but then he had the capacity to ignore her for days or even weeks on end. "No wonder she picked up on internet dating!" Charlene thought to herself. Kelsey admitted that she and Jason might have looked to all the world like a couple but they had never slept together and there was actually very little intimacy between them at all. They were more like brother and sister or just best friends.

"So, tell me about internet dating..." Charlene prompted. Kelsey explained to her about how to find the better websites, what type of information works in the profile and what doesn't, and she elaborated on the types of conversations she'd been having with her internet "friends."

"Some of the guys invite me on actual online dates," Kelsey gushed. "We spend our time exclusively together, we load up the same videos and watch together or, in some cases, we've even watched movies together on the internet." Charlene thought it sounded pretty much like any other date, except the couple was in very different physical locations. "Is it really all that satisfying to be with someone that way?" she questioned. "Surprisingly, Char," Kelsey replied, "it's incredibly intimate. If you decide to voice chat with someone, it's an intense experience. Some of the guys... wow... they have the sexiest voices!!" The two women giggled like schoolgirls but Charlene was really drawn in by Kelsey's enthusiasm. In fact, listening to her talk about her latest internet date, Charlene found herself taking notes in the back of her mind. This was definitely something she was going to pursue, too, just as soon as she got the chance.
